Best time to fly to Seoul

The short answer

The nicest weather in Seoul is spring (April–May) and autumn (September–November), but that’s also when it’s busiest and priciest. From Canada and the US the cheapest fares usually land in winter — roughly November to February, outside the holidays — and in the late-spring lull before the summer rains. Watch for Korea’s two big holidays, Seollal (Lunar New Year) and Chuseok, when the whole country travels and many shops close.

Seoul season by season

Spring (April–May) is glorious and popular: cherry blossoms in early-to-mid April, mild temperatures, long clear days. It’s peak season for a reason, so fares and hotels run higher.

Summer (June–August) is hot and humid, with the monsoon rains (jangma) arriving late June into July and a typhoon risk in August. Cheaper on the price-vs-weather trade, but sticky.

Both trigger mass domestic travel, jammed transport, and widespread shop and restaurant closures for a few days — bad for both price and convenience, so plan around them. Beyond those, the demand spikes that hit your airfare from North America are the usual ones: summer holidays, the cherry-blossom weeks in early April, and Christmas–New Year.

When to book

Seoul has non-stop options from Toronto and Vancouver plus one-stop routings via Asia or the US from most cities, so fares reward planning: two to five months out is the realistic economy sweet spot. For cherry-blossom season and the autumn-foliage peak, book earlier — those are the most in-demand windows. As always on a long route, weigh total travel time against the headline price.
